And Then There Were Two in the Little RV

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'
It's been a pretty rough week around here.  In addition to our astounding mechanical disaster we had to say goodbye to our beloved dog, Grant.

We adopted Grant when he was just a few months old.

Grant and Carrie

At the time we had Carrie, our 12 year old Aussie and Marley our 10 year old Newfoundland who have both passed on.

Sadly due to all of Grant's medical problems he was pain an awful lot of the time. His allergies to food and the environment would cause inflammation and his arthritis would flare up to the point he had difficulty walking some days. His tummy problems caused him to have painful gas and he couldn't lay still sometimes. His vet believed he had developed ulcers which caused him pain and some occasional bleeding in the digestive system.  We were giving him pain pills twice a day but that's no way to live.  Most other medications were out of the question because they contain things he is allergic to and make things even worse.

It had become painfully clear that it was time to let him go.

We believe Grant is now playing with Marley and Carrie, being cared for by my best friend Judi and waiting patiently for us to come and join him so we can all play ball together again.

Yesterday we donated all of Grant's things to a no kill animal shelter here in Duluth. We don't plan to bring another pet into our lives until we are settled somewhere again.

  1. You brought tears to my eyes. Our dogs have always been "our kids" and when they pass on, it leaves one heck of a void in our lives. We now have three Shih-Tzu dogs and they are getting up in age. They are only teen agers in human years but old in dog years. We love them dearly. So I know how you feel and my heart goes out to you.

    1. Dizzy, We have never been without a dog. Sometimes we have had two or even three. It's awfully quiet around here. We'll get through it though.

  2. So sorry to hear this news. We adopted a beagle 2.5 years ago. I dread the day we have to say goodbye.

    1. Hi Paul,
I've seen your girl Bea in photos. It's hard to lose them so continue to enjoy her. She's lucky to have you and Kim for parents. We were with him on the floor in the vet's office giving him ear scratches when he went. We didn't want him to be alone.
      Thank you for your concern.

  3. I left a comment on your Facebook page, but wanted to reiterate here how sorry I am for your loss and sadness. We sure love our pets and I could tell how special Grant was to you two. Sending a cyber hug your way.

    1. Donna,
Thank you for both of your notes. We sure do miss Grant. When we came home yesterday there was nobody trying to push the door open when I was unlocking it. Sad but we have good memories. He was a great dog in spite of his "issues".
